Gemelas Beach

Hello, beach lovers and travelers 🏝️. Today, from the marvelous Quepos, I bring you a gem that, although often overshadowed by its more famous sister, Playa Manuel Antonio, has its own charisma and beauty to offer. Yes, I’m talking about Playa Gemelas.

A quiet escape amidst paradise

Although these beaches don’t have that immediate “wow” factor that leaves you speechless like some others in the area, they have something that many busier beaches have lost: serenity. If you’re looking for a spot to relax, listen to the sea’s murmur, and feel the breeze without the crowd’s hustle and bustle, Playa Gemelas is your place!

The dance of the tides

An interesting and essential fact to keep in mind: the tide plays a leading role here. During high tide, the sand can almost completely disappear. And if you can’t resist the temptation to immerse yourself in those crystal-clear waters, be aware of the currents! They can be treacherous.

The charm of the hidden

Located within Manuel Antonio National Park in Puntarenas, these beaches are framed by rocks on both sides and offer a perfect setting for snorkeling, thanks to their gentle waves. If you’re looking for a place to relax and connect with nature under trees that almost touch the sea, this is your spot.

The journey is part of the adventure

Speaking of nature, the path to Playa Gemelas is a spectacle in itself. Imagine walking along a trail, surrounded by native vegetation, with the possibility of encountering mischievous monkeys or curious raccoons. The journey, which is just over 1 km (about 0.6 miles) from the main entrance, is a teaser of what awaits you: a refuge of tranquility and beauty.

Practical tips

Before reaching the park, rent a parking space in the nearby areas. You can get the park entrance fee at CoopeAlianza, so keep that in mind!

How to get there?

  • Drive along the road until you reach the town of Quepos, then turn left following the signs to Manuel Antonio National Park through the mountains for about 6.5 km (4 miles) until you reach the entrance of Manuel Antonio National Park.
  • To reach Playa Gemelas, you must first enter the park, paying the required fee at the entrance.
  • Once inside the park, follow the Perezoso Trail to the end, where you’ll find a sign indicating Playa Gemelas. Take the trail, which is 1.6 km (1 mile) in length and connects the Perezoso Trail to Playa Gemelas.

So, the next time you’re in Quepos and looking for a more intimate spot to enjoy the sea, think of Playa Gemelas. And if we happen to meet there, go ahead, say hi! Let the adventure continue. 🌅🐒🌴
